GLB Inspector: Triangle Count, Bounding Box and Textures

See what a generated GLB actually contains before you ship it: triangle count, bounding box, materials and textures. Inspect locally, with nothing uploaded.

GLB Inspector: Triangle Count, Bounding Box and Textures
TL;DR
  • A GLB inspector tells you what a generated model actually is: triangle count, bounding box, materials, animation.
  • Compare the bounding box against the real object first. Most "the model is wrong" reports are a scale or orientation problem, not a mesh problem.
  • Texture presence is the check that separates a good generation from a flat one — a GLB can carry geometry and still arrive untextured.
  • Inspection runs locally: the file is parsed in the browser and never uploaded.

Image-to-3D tools hand you a GLB and a thumbnail. The thumbnail is a render with a flattering camera; the GLB is the thing you will actually ship. Between them sits the step almost everyone skips — opening the file and reading its numbers. That step takes ten seconds and prevents the two most expensive mistakes in a 3D pipeline: wrong scale, and geometry that looks textured in the preview but has no image data attached.

The numbers worth reading

SignalHealthyWhat a bad value means
Triangle countIn the tens of thousands for a single object.Millions mean the file will stall viewers and engines; a few hundred means detail was lost.
Bounding boxMatches the real object in the unit you intend.Off by 1000x is a metres-millimetres mismatch; a squashed axis means a broken transform.
MaterialsOne or more, with images attached.Zero materials renders as grey clay; materials with no images render black.
Rig and animationPresent only when you generated motion.A static mesh with an animation track usually means the wrong export preset.

Inspecting before you commit

1

Open the file you downloaded

Not the preview. The preview is the generator's render, the file is your deliverable.

2

Read the bounding box first

Compare longest edge against the real object. This single number catches orientation and scale faults.

3

Orbit to the back and underside

Generated meshes fail where the photo had no information: behind, beneath, and in deep concavities.

4

Only then send it onward

After inspection, convert for the destination: STL for printing, OBJ for legacy DCC, GLB for the web.

The thumbnail is not the file

A render can hide holes behind a friendly camera angle and a smooth normal map. Orbit it once — the underside is where generated geometry admits what it does not know.

Frequently asked

What does a GLB inspector show that a viewer does not?

Numbers: triangle count, bounding box, material and texture inventory. The viewer answers "does it look right", the inspector answers "what is it made of".

Can I inspect a GLB without uploading it?

Yes. Parsing happens in your browser, so a client's model stays on your machine.

Does inspecting cost credits?

No. Local tools here are free. Credits apply only when you generate a new model on the AI 3D generator.

Next steps

If the numbers are wrong, regenerate rather than repair: fix the input photo and run it again on the Pixal3D image-to-3D generator. Then compare the two routes in the Pixal3D vs TRELLIS 2 guide, and read the format guide before exporting.

Also useful: the full-page GLB inspector, GLB to STL, GLB to OBJ, and the STL viewer.
